Welcome....

St. Matthew’s Catholic School is a school where the needs of growing children are paramount and we aim to offer the best quality education for the children in our care.  The school curriculum will match each child’s needs and abilities, so that all the children may develop intellectually, physically and socially.  The standard of work we look for is the highest that each individual child can achieve.  As a matter of school policy, we have high expectations of our pupils since we firmly believe that this stimulates high levels of achievement.

We want all our children to feel valued and secure.  The atmosphere of the school will contribute to each child’s happiness and individuality.  Children work best within a framework of reasonable and consistent discipline.  This framework, established by the Head Teacher and Staff and endorsed by the Governing Body, is designed to allow children freedom to grow in self-discipline by exercising choices and making individual decisions.

The important theme of partnership between home and school plays an integral part in creating the appropriate environment to allow the development of each child.  This shared commitment between home and school has the aim of ensuring academic progress, excellent behaviour, the development of good attitudes and personal qualities and involvement in a wide variety of worthwhile activities.  When parents actively support us in what we are doing and show a willingness to work with others also, they prove a valuable source and channel ideas and suggestions to all concerned and positively enrich the school as a result.  This partnership is a vital part of our vision for the future.  The Staff will play a full part in strengthening this partnership.

As a Catholic School, there is that added dimension of our faith in Jesus Christ, which makes St. Matthew’s a very important part of the local Christian community, the parish of Our Lady and St. Cuthbert’s in Prudhoe.  We know from experience that this partnership with the parish further strengthens and enriches the partnership between home and school.

Should you have any questions or problems, please do not hesitate to share them with our Head Teacher, Mrs. Pye.
